Activate’s inclusive performance group, The Remix, will take to the stage at this year’s Dorset Mela.
The Dorset Mela takes place in Poole Park and is a vibrant and culturally enriching event that celebrates the diversity of South Asian heritage, arts, music, and cuisine. Originating from the Indian subcontinent, the term “mela” refers to a fair or festival, and the Dorset Mela captures the essence of this concept by bringing together people from various backgrounds to share in the festivities.
This year, Activate’s very own inclusive performance group for young people, The Remix, will be performing! During May half term they took part in a Bollywood-style workshop with BPC Indian Community member Agnes Ramani, who taught them some brilliant choreography and now they’re ready for the Mela stage. Expect colour, rhythm and joy as they perform to Bum Bum Bole from the film Taare Zameen Par and Chak Dhoom Dhoom from the film Dil toh Pagal hai.
Head to Dorset Mela for an opportunity for both the South Asian community and the wider public to come together and experience the rich tapestry of cultures that make up this region. One of the main highlights of the Dorset Mela is its colourful and lively performances. Traditional dances, such as Bharatanatyam, Kathak, and Bhangra, grace the stage alongside contemporary fusion acts that blend South Asian melodies with Western beats.
Join us on 20 June in Poole Park. The Mela starts at 10am and The Remix will be performing at 11am. See you there!
