  • Who is Dorset Youth Dance suitable for?

    DYD Juniors is for young people aged 7-11 looking to learn about contemporary dance through creative exercises. Get dancing, have fun and be introduced to contemporary dance. No previous dance experience required.

    DYD Seniors is for ages 12-19. Suitable for any young dancers looking to enjoy regular dance practice, these classes are more technical and will develop performance confidence. Understand more about Contemporary dance and grow in contact & improvisation work. No previous dance experience required,.

    DYD Company is for ages 14-25 and you must be invited to attend this class, after dancing with the DYD Seniors class. DYD Company focuses on advanced level training for those looking to pursue dance professionally or at a higher level. Push your Contemporary dance skills further and strengthen your performance experience.

  • What should I bring to class with me?

    All dancers should wear appropriate clothing, that shows your form and allows ease of movement. Dancers will perform class in bare feet (or socks) and should bring a bottle of water.

  • Will I get to perform?

    DYD offers dancers performance opportunities throughout the year, where possible. DYD Company dancers often take part in regional youth dance platforms, such as U.Dance South West and Origins, local youth performance platforms and the biennial Inside Out Dorset festival. DYD Seniors & Company also perform curtain raisers for touring professional companies when possible. DYD Juniors often share their work with their grown-ups, at the end of each term.
