What you can expect

Each class has a friendly and inviting atmosphere whilst fostering a level of professionalism expected at most dance schools. We expect a level of commitment from all of our Dorset Youth Dance company members, no matter how experienced you are.

You are welcome to try a taster session before committing to joining the company. These usually take place at the start of each term.

Dancers in the Seniors and Company classes will experience performance opportunities at regional youth dance platforms, work with leading national dance artists and develop their portfolio suitable for today’s performing arts industry. DYD Dancers have also had the opportunity to perform in new works created for Inside Out Dorset festival in 2016, 2018 & 2021. Between August 2020 and September 2021, DYD dancers created ‘Tess’, along with friends from Movers & Shakers, The Remix, Coast & Co-Evo (Pavilion Dance) & Rise Youth Dance; click HERE to watch the 3 short dance films that form the digital element of ‘Tess’.

Furthermore, DYD works in partnership with Dorset arts organisations such as Artsreach Dorset, to facilitate workshops with professional dance artists and companies touring to the county, providing dancers with the opportunities to learn new styles and watch professional performances. Autumn 2021 saw Seniors & Company dancers work and created a curtain raiser with Joshua Nash, one of the UK’s foremost Krump artists, performed at Weymouth College, whilst the Juniors experienced a workshop with Sonia Sabri Dance before taking a trip to see their professional work.
