What's On

Sonnet of Samsara

  • 19-20 September 2025
  • Weymouth

See Weymouth’s streets come alive with hundreds of silk pennants, local dance groups and international dance artists. You’ll witness an amazing fusion of contemporary dance, martial arts and live soundscapes coming from boom bikes.

The performance starts at Weymouth Town Bridge and weaves through the streets to the beach. Along the way there’ll be short pauses for captivating dance moments, with a vibrant Carnival Queen leading the procession and mobile boat structures adding to the spectacle. The performance will culminate in a finale on the beautiful sands of Weymouth Beach, framed by the installation of hundreds of naturally-dyed silk pennants each representing a personal story that reflects our relationship to the coast.

Created by Jayachandran Palazhy, Founder and Artistic Director of Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts in India, and UK arts charity Kinetika, plus choreography from Charlene Low. Part of the national project Beach of Dreams presented by Kinetika and directed by Ali Pretty, this collaboration between professional dance artists and community performers promises to be an unforgettable experience.

Be part of the performance!
We’re looking for volunteer performers. Learn simple choreography on the day then dance and carry a pennant in the main event.

Rehearsals will take place on Weymouth Beach at 2.30-3.30pm each day and you’ll perform at 7pm. (You’ll need to attend a briefing at 5.30pm).

You don’t need any dance experience, just an enthusiasm and a willingness to be part of a shared creative experience.
