Street in the Park is a vibrant, free, and inclusive event that celebrates the talent of young people across Dorset. Originally created to give Music Technology students from Coastland College (formerly Weymouth College) hands-on experience in planning and delivering a live event, it has grown into a much-loved community showcase of local youth creativity.

The event is run with, and for, young people who work alongside professional DJs, rap artists, and event and production organisers, offering work experience opportunities and competition prizes. In the lead up to the event, young people aged 5–25 can take part in a range of inclusive workshops, including street dance, rap writing, DJing, and graffiti art. These activities are designed to build skills, boost confidence, and support personal development, helping participants explore pathways for progression and future opportunities.

Up & Coming DJ Competition

In the lead up to Street in the Park, an Up & Coming DJ Competition is held with the support from DJ Andy Cleeton and Coastland College Music Technology students. This competition is open to Dorset-based Up & Coming DJs. Successful applicants get the opportunity to battle it out at Street in the Park for the chance to win cash prizes, local radio dj sets and the opportunity to perform at other local events and festivals, including We Out Here Festival.

“Events like this are really important to the town, particularly to younger people, who lack quality activities to attend. Street in the Park is also a good opportunity for the young people who organise the event and perform at it, allowing them to grow their confidence, experience and skills.”
