Dusk til Dark Illuminations – Peixos by Sarruga

A spectacular event which delighted thousands who lined the streets of Weymouth as Activate once more, brought a Dusk ’til Dark, illuminated evening performance parade to the town on 23 and 24 September 2022.
In September 2021, as part of Inside Out Dorset festival, Activate presented Sense of Unity – an illuminated parade of giant puppets, also in Weymouth town centre. Due to its success we were invited again by Weymouth Town Council and We Are Weymouth to create another evening spectacle for locals and visitors to the town.
Each evening, as dusk fell, the Peixos (which means ‘fish’ in Catalan) performers wound their way down Weymouth’s Esplanade creating a spellbinding parade inside an eerie underwater world which featured luminescent sea creatures and gigantic pedal-powered wizardry, as well as a large helping of fun and laughter.
In the lead up to the event Activate hosted workshops at local schools and libraries encouraging children and young people to make their own fishy creations. These were displayed in shop windows around Weymouth bringing the community together in the build up to the parade event itself.
Sarruga are a Barcelona-based collective who tour the world with their outdoor art and performance creations.

Here’s a flavour of the event and the carnival atmosphere:
“Brilliant event. So nice to see the town full. We came over specially and had a meal beforehand along with several friends and then enjoyed the show. Well done to all involved! So nice to see so many families enjoying it.”
