Workshops for Artists and Young People

BOO Bamboo

As part our Inside Out Associate Programme, designers and set builders of the BoO set (Cirk Vost) visited Dorset for a two day workshop in October 2013 to train local artists and teachers in the art of building bamboo structures. The workshop was a huge success and was followed by a series of workshops to 5 schools in and around the Poole and Bournemouth areas. At these workshops local artists and teachers who had taken part in the first workshop cascaded their skills to over 150 children and facilitated the design and building of 5 bamboo structures (one created by each school) that formed part of a display on Poole Quay prior to the first performance of 'BoO' by Cirk Vost, in Poole Park on 12 September 2014.

Circus Skills Workshop

In September 2013 in conjunction with our Hors Pistes rural tour, two groups of young people from Queen Elizabeth School in Dorset and Kingsmeade Community School in Wiveliscombe took part in a circus skills workshop with the circus company. The workshop was designed to complement the show (Ordures et menagere) as part of our audience building strategy and gave the young people an insight into the daring, poise, courage and trust needed to perform contemporary circus.

These activities are part of Activate's audience development strategy to help ensure that our events and shows are filled to capacity.
