Nell, the director, has this to say: ‘Rehearsals are underway and every day I am astonished again by the writing talent, the story-telling, the performance skills and the honesty of the outsiders who are going to be in The Vodka Hunters. It is the result of many years of my work with the people in the community, developing skills and the confidence to tell their stories. It is unusual to get community work of this standard and the process has been extremely thorough and rigorous. At no moment has there been a concession to the fact they are not professional writers or performers, and that will shine in the final piece.

We are going to hold a Q and A about this process on the Sunday after the afternoon show in case anyone is interested in how it was put together.’

Written and performed by Jane Cartwright, Cecilia Gail, Scott Lavene and Gary Pierre

The Vodka Hunters is an intense, ground-breaking site-specific performance about motherhood and fatherhood.

The show is created through a collaboration between award-winning writer/director Nell Leyshon and four “outsider” artists from Bournemouth.

Each of the four performer/writer will have their own space and the audience will move through the rooms and discover their different voices and stories.

The Vodka Hunters is a brand new work born and created in Bournemouth.  It is exciting, visceral, funny, and always, but always, honest and truly authentic.

Nell Leyshon is an award-winning playwright and novelist. Her first novel, Black Dirt, was long-listed for the Orange Prize and The Colour of Milk has been published worldwide.  She has won an Evening Standard award for her play Comfort me with Apples, and was the first woman to write a play for the Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. She taught creative writing for many years with marginalised communities and is committed to enabling fresh new voices to be heard.  She is on the board of the Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.

Please Note: this performance is site specific. Please wear outdoor shoes and if necessary wrap up warm.  Some uneven surfaces.  Although for standing audiences, chairs will be provided.

Performance is for 16+ audiences, some swearing and flashing lights
