We Are Brontë is a piece of comic visual theatre inspired by the real and imaginery worlds of Yorkshire's literary siblings, presented in Publick Transport’s irreverent style. Physical theatre collides with stand-up, clowning and improvisation as two performers deconstruct not only gothic themes of love, madness, repression and revenge, but also themselves. Part play, part enquiry into the act of putting on a play, this promises to be no ordinary Brontë adaptation.
We Are Brontë is devised/performed by Angus Barr and Sarah Corbett, and directed by Ed Rapley. Dramaturgy by Susie Donkin (Spitz & Co - Gloriator); additional performance and movement direction by Brenda Waite.
Publick Transport was set up in Bristol in 2005 with the mission not to bore audiences. ‘And bore audiences they certainly do not’ (Venue Magazine). The company is dedicated to making comic theatre of the highest standard, drawing on clown, slapstick and the absurd to celebrate the live experienceand stimulate all the senses and bodily parts – especially the belly.
Past productions have included Discombobulated, The Dept of Smelling Pistakes, 20,000 Leagues Under The Office and Very Hard Times.
