Performing Arts Higher Education Workshops and Audition Opportunity

Thursday 13th February between 10am - 5.30pm

Join Activate who are Co-Producing a Higher Education Workshop Day with Weymouth College and Millennium Performing Arts.

The purpose of the day of workshops is to allow young people to have a taste of what to expect should they wish to continue onto Higher Education and to get a feel for what Millennium and Weymouth College offer and the expectations they have of their students.

What is the offer? Young people can sign up to two workshops in the day in the following disciplines:

Contemporary and Jazz

Devising Theatre

Musical Theatre dance - with Myles Jerome, professional dancer in the touring production of The Bodyguard  

 

Millennium Performing Arts Audition : Millennium Performing Arts have kindly offered a selected few spaces for 8 young people to audition for their level 6 Performing Arts Dance courses https://www.mpacollege.co.uk/full-time-courses/ for a reduced cost of £15. Application for audition is usually £45 with the cost of travelling to London also. If you are interested in taking the audition in Weymouth, please contact me asap as there are a limited amount of spaces left.

Audition will involve participation in a contemporary and jazz workshop. You will also need to prepare and perform either a song or a monologue of your choice. This will take place after the dance workshop.

 

Spaces will be allocated on a first come first served basis and there are a limited number of spaces left. Successful applicants will also need to complete an application form which will be given to you on confirmation of your place.

 

Who is it for? Young people studying A-Level/ BTEC (or equivalent), interested in progressing onto HE courses in the above areas.

When does it take place? Thursday 13th February between 10am - 5.30pm (please see schedule for the day below for more detailed information).

Where? The Bay Studios and Theatre, Weymouth College, Cranford Avenue, Weymouth, DT4 7LQ.

How much? FREE, however there are limited spaces for each workshop so it will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.

Schedule for the day

Thursday 13th February 2020

9.15 - 9.45 am - Registration in the Box Office (for those attending am only and am and pm workshops)

10am - 12pm - Workshop Option 1 (each workshop to include 1.5 hr practical class and 0.5hrs for course info, Q&A and evaluation forms)

12pm - Lunch and sign out

2.00pm  - Registration in Box Office (for those only attending the pm workshop)

2.30 - 4.30pm   - Workshop Option 2 (each workshop to include 1.5 hr practical class and 0.5hrs for course info, Q&A and evaluation forms)

4.30 - 5.30pm - Auditions for those who have applied

Workshop Option 1 - 10am - 12pm

  • Bodyguard Workshop - Myles Jerome - dancer in the touring production of The Bodyguard
  • Weymouth College - Devising Theatre

 

Workshop Option 2 - 2.30 - 4.30pm

  • Millennium Performing Arts - Jazz & Voice (45 mins) followed by Contemporary Dance (45 mins)
  • Weymouth College - Devising Theatre

 

Millennium Performing Arts Audition 4.30- 5.30pm

Preparation of a song or monologue
