With enforced isolation in place due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the DYD Company summer 2020 term cannot take place in its usual format. Our paramount concern is the health & well-being of our team, artists, participants, audiences and local community. With this in mind, the DYD team has created a ‘Digital Dance’ programme as an alternative term, which will continue to up-skill and enrich our dancers’ experiences and hopefully continue the DYD sense of community.
The programme consists of the following activities, delivered online via Zoom:
DYD Classes, Sundays
10am-10:45am, Company 1 dancers (ages 7-11 years)
10:50am-11:35am, Company 2 & 3 dancers (ages 12-18 years)
The classes will focus on creative content that is appropriate for limited spaces at home, incorporating the creation & development of the Disco Dance Battle for the future ‘Street in the Park’ event performance (see below for further info on this). These live online classes, delivered via Zoom, will take place on DYD's regular Sunday slot. It’s a time to get together, work on some core and practical skills and have some fun.
'Disco Dance Battle'
Activate will be partners in the next ‘Street in the Park’ event in Dorchester which involves an Up & Coming DJ competition and disco inspired performances by local and professional dancers to a live DJ set. Part of the event will include local companies and organisations partaking in dance battles to a live professional DJ.
So this is the time to get your disco on! Claire will be collaborating with the DYD dancers to create and develop a Disco 'Battle' routine,
Dancers will all be notified when a date has been set for the Street in the Park event performance. Participation in the event is not essential to taking part in the Disco classes - you can take part purely for fun!
DYD's take on a collaborative dance film, where dancers choreograph and film a short section of dance at home, which is then edited together in one continuous film. A great example of this is 'Exquisite Corps (42 Choreographers, 1 Dance)' which you can check out on YouTube.
Our older dancers (aged 12-18) will also have access to additional activities, such as a 'Responding to Dance' task and a 'Dance for Screen' Workshop, in collaboration with professional photographer and videographer Dan Tucker. This will lead to our dancers creating their own short dance films, with support from Artistic Director Claire and collaborator, Dan.
Recorded classes and additional online content will also be available to DYD dancers, via Activate's Vimeo account, at any point during the term.
Company 1: £40
Company 2 & 3: £65
