Arts University Bournemouth is the leading professional arts university dedicated to creative education and career success. Offering courses in art, design, architecture, media and performance, we are passionate about our specialist subjects and dedicated both to education and the creative industries which we serve.

An opportunity has arisen to provide technical support to the university’s Photography subject area.

The role of Technician is to provide broad general technical support across the subject area under the line management of the Senior Technician. The role has varying deliverables to meet the demands of a range of courses and activities, including providing some support to the film subject area.

Working alongside the team of Technician Demonstrators, the Technician ensures the effective operation of photography and film equipment stores on a daily basis, issuing and receiving equipment and undertaking first-line maintenance. They will provide equipment and software support and guidance to students, assist colleagues with inductions and workshops, and contribute to the preparation, building and dismantling of exhibitions.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a depth of knowledge of photography practices, alongside an awareness and understanding of film production equipment, and ideally have experience of working in an education setting. An understanding of health and safety working practices is also essential, as is the ability to work as a member of a team and independently using your own initiative.

You will need to be flexible in your approach to the working day and environment as regular evening and weekend working is required on a rotational basis, which may be on or off the university’s main campus.

You must possess GCSE grade A-C, or equivalent in English and Maths and a level 3 qualification in photography or a related subject. A degree qualification, or equivalent experience in an appropriate field would be advantageous. It is also desirable that you will be in possession of a full UK/EU driving license.
