Kick the Dirt is seeking South-West (Devon) based devising artists / performers for the R+D and rehearsal of a new show about a female professional bull rider.
Professional Bull Riding (PBR) is often called “the most dangerous sport on earth”. BULLS*** looks at what happens when a woman enters a male arena, exploring themes of identity, gender, power and the body.
The show is a development of a well-received early stage sharing. We are interested in playing with form, employing physicality, sound and projection, and exploring non-traditional use of text.
Performer 1: Female, playing age 19-30. Confident developing characters and working with text. Strong mover.
Performer 2: Male, playing age 19-30. Strong base partner / lifting experience. Comfortable multiroling characters / ensemble work.
Performer 3: Male / female, playing age 19-30. Comfortable multiroling characters / ensemble work.
All performers MUST be comfortable with collaborative devising processes where ideas, text, movement, character and sound are developed in the rehearsal space with the company.
All performers must be able to do a passable American accent (Southern / Mid-West).
All performers should have experience or training in one or more movement disciplines, including but not limited to: physical theatre, dance, martial arts, acrobatics, clowning, circus, partner-based movement.
Experience of object manipulation / puppetry and live sound manipulation would be useful.
Note the director wishes to cast diversely; applications from BAME artists are actively encouraged.
3 weeks of R+D between end October and mid December, likely to be:
- 8 days between 22nd October – 4th November
- 2 days in mid-November
- 8 days between 3rd – 15th December (including show dates 13th, 14th, 15th December).
All rehearsals will be in Plymouth.
Please note funding is not yet confirmed (application pending). If successful, the fee for the work will be 3 weeks at Equity recommended rates for performers (£473 / week). We regret that we cannot pay relocation fees, and all applying artists must be living in, or able to stay in, commutable distance from Plymouth.
