Od Arts Festival 2018 - Opportunities for artists

Od Arts Festival 2018 Opportunities for artists

Deadline: 23:59 GMT Thursday 1 February 2018

Background Od Arts Festival 2018 is a new contemporary arts festival run by OSR Projects that supports the production and presentation of art across the neighbouring villages of East Coker and West Coker in rural Somerset, UK.

The Od is a crooked stream that meanders through East and West Coker. The festival will take place in venues around the two villages as well as using the surrounding landscape as a site for the production and presentation of contemporary art, performance, music, discussions and workshops. Multi-site curated exhibitions, new commissions, and participatory projects by artist-led groups will take place across the villages for a weekend of art and ideas in this vibrant Somerset landscape.

Od Arts Festival will weave in between past, present and future rivalries, creating static from the frictions that we find, with the creative platform becoming not only a place of excitement and discovery, but somewhere for ideas to be battled out.

Artistic rivalry is an active ingredient in the arts ecology of the UK, it can both inhibit and encourage the creation of reactionary and compelling work.

Throughout contemporary art practice there is animosity, conflict and scepticism - all valid traits that deserve celebration, and will be celebrated within this festival.

The battle of an artist practice is a constant endeavour to speak with assertive diction. Clear the throat and give way to the exclamation that follows.

Od Arts Festival is artist-led at its heart, open and welcoming to all.

It is curated by Simon Lee Dicker (Artist/ co-director OSR Projects) and Bob Gelsthorpe (Artist/ Writer).

Supported by Arts Council England.

Opportunities for Artists 1: Commission for a site-responsive work

2: Submission for group exhibition ________________

1: Commission for a site-responsive work The Od Commission is for expansive and ambitious new work, that truly becomes activated by the bucolic landscape and its citizens, whilst responsive to the concept of rivalry or its connotations. This being said, the proposal should not be prescriptive and should represent an ambitious challenge in the context of an artist’s practice. We are very much interested in creative responses to rivalry and will happily discuss this with prospective applications beforehand.

We are treating all of East and West Coker as the gallery, and so we are welcoming static works, as well as live works, socially engaged work, public projects, educational practices, publishing as practice and any other time-based approach.

The Od Commission offer consists of:

• Project budget of £2500 to include all expenses, fees and materials.

• Up to 5 nights accommodation (based on single applicant)

• Use of OSR Project space during project development

• Dedicated creative dialogue with project curators

• Support from the team throughout, during and after the Festival.

• Marketing and Technical support

• Professional documentation of the work

Eligibility: Application is open to creative individuals, pairs or groups at any stage of their career, who are currently based in the UK. Applicants do not need to possess a degree in a creative subject but must be able to demonstrate a track record of creative activity.
