Job Type: Part-Time (Flexible).
Hours: 16 hours per week (to include occasional weekend working).
Contract: Fixed-term for 15 months supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund with potential for contract renewal.
Salary: £20,800 per annum, pro rata.

The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to be the fundraiser at The Etches Collection Museum of Jurassic Marine Life located in the village of Kimmeridge. The museum opened in October 2016 and houses the remarkable fossil collection of one man’s passion, bringing to life the stories from deep time. The museum is a registered charity which mainly focuses on education and research and was recently awarded accredited status by the Arts Council.

Over the last 35 years Steve Etches has discovered, collected and researched over 2,500 incredible late Jurassic fossils from the Kimmeridgian Clay Formation. These are now on display in a new immersive museum which takes the visitor on a journey through underwater life 150 million years ago.

This new role offers the opportunity to run the day to day fundraising activities for the museum.

The Role

The fundraiser will co-ordinate the museum’s fundraising activities (responsibilities detailed below). The successful candidate will report to the Museum Manager and have support from museum staff & trustees.

The fundraiser will be familiar with museum or charity operations, have experience in grant applications and fundraising schemes. They will be an excellent communicator who engages well with people including staff, volunteers, visitors and businesses and will be expected to be proactive in securing funds for the museum.

Main Responsibilities

o Run fundraising and non-visitor income streams for the museum (grant applications, legacies, donations etc).
o Build and maintain long-term relationships with new and existing funding/grant making organisations.
o Recruit corporate sponsors & develop relationships.
o Optimise onsite donations and online giving.
o Identify and research new trusts, foundations and corporate funding opportunities.
o Work closely with all departments to help develop and implement the fundraising strategy.
o Develop, write and present persuasive and innovative proposals for submission to trusts and other funding bodies.
o Project evaluations, and
o Carry out any other necessary tasks required in the overall operation of the museum.

Skills and Experience

o Experience of working in a museum or charity environment.
o Strong communications skills in all media: written, spoken, social media.
o Strong organisational, project management and monitoring skills.
o Knowledge of key grant awarding bodies and processes.
o Experience of securing significant gifts from Trusts, business and high net worth individuals.
o Ability to manage income and expenditure budgets, and
o Good IT skills.
