Explore site-specific urban and contemporary dance in the market area and at the Maumbury Rings on Weds 17th & Thurs 18th August at 2pm till 5pm and at 5.30pm till 8.30 pm on both days, meeting at the Skate Park, Dorchester.
These workshops will be run by Katey Leader, Director of Dance at Take Art and Somerset Youth Dance Company leader, supported by Ella Huhne, Artistic Director of Landance, assisted by Imogen Gray and Zoe Cochrane. The movement work being developed in these workshops is inspired by two days of research and development with Impermanence Dance Theatre members Alessandro Marzotto Levy and Patricia Langa, with Sophie Colthurst, collaborating dancer, Ella Huhne and youth dancers Imogen Gray and Zoe Cochrane.
This will form the creative basis of a large performance project being planned for these sites in 2017:
Dusk – Steep grassy banks of a Neolithic henge, huge circular earthworks, paths trace diagonally up the sides and on ridges.
Dancers etched on the skyline, on the banks, within the audience. Then out into the road, past skate-boarders riding the curving concrete slopes and sharp edges of the skate park, along the pavement to the market area.
Dark – Long low linhays set back to each side of the market building, tarmac parking areas, a big tall open-sided structure.
Cars, positioned to create the lighting, send sudden shafts of light through spaces, highlighting dancers and free runners, sounds blare from their radios.
Landance will collaborate with Impermanence Dance Theatre, visual, sound and light artists, emerging artists and community participants to develop performances on site. The aim of this project is to collaborate with local young people as performers, in dance, free running and skate-boarding, and to attract new audiences to outdoor dance performance.
