About Tessa Bide
Tessa Bide is a Bristol-based theatremaker, author and performer and this is her third, Arts Council England funded production for family audiences. Her work always features an original story (written by Tessa, devised into the show with the cast), interaction with the audience, puppetry and movement. Her other shows include The Tap Dancing Mermaid and Arnold's Big Adventure. Tessa's work has been critically acclaimed, with reviewers saying that "Tessa Bide understands children in a way that can't be taught" (Children's Theatre Reviews), "If you drew up a checklist of all the things a good children’s show should contain, The Tap Dancing Mermaid would tick every box." (The List), "Bide absolutely smashes the fourth wall – this is just everything a children’s theatre experience should be" (Childplays on The Tap Dancing Mermaid). Tessa believes that children's theatre should entertain all of the audience - including the parents, and that it should never patronise. Her work aims to engage the children and the child inside every adult, creating a dialogue between parent and child that lasts a lot longer than the production itself.
