Emerging Directors - Salisbury Playhouse/JMK Trust

Salisbury Playhouse, Nuffield Theatre and the JMK Trust are inviting local directors and theatre-makers interested in directing theatre to join their free ongoing talent development scheme, based at the two theatre s. The aim is to:

Create a hub for directors interested in making theatre.
Provide access to exclusive workshop, training and development opportunities for emerging directors and makers.
Create a chance for directors and makers to meet regularly, to network an d to share ideas both regionally and nationally.
The opportunity to apply for a Leverhulme Arts Scholarship, securing the chance to work as an assistant director on a professional production.
Jo Newman will head u p the scheme at the Salisbury Playhouse, working with the Nuffield Theatre and JMK's Regional Coordinator Lisa Spirling to create a series of workshops, gatherings and events for theatre directors in the region throughout the year.

THE ACTOR AND DIRECTOR RELATIONSHIP
This is a practical session led by JMK Artistic Coordinator and director Lisa Spirling along with two professional actors focusing on the vital relationship between the actor and the director. The group will work with the actors to share good practice in auditioning, casting and the nuts and bolts of enabling actors in rehearsal to create a role using text and the best way (if there is such a thing) to direct and be directed.

Along with the session from 6.30pm to 7pm Jo Newman from Salisbury Playhouse and Beth Flintoff from the Watermill will be talking a little about their theatres, the programming decisions and their own insights into working in these buildings.
