Company: Lorna Rees
Type: Outdoor Performance
Location: initially South West (all accommodation costs to be covered by the production)
Lorna Rees (Artistic Director, Gobbledegook Theatre) is looking for movement/physical theatre performers for the premier of a new work, GEOPHONIC. This piece will then tour more fully in 2022. Dates and duration tbc
Role Description – what’s required:
- Strong physical theatre performer
- Confident singer
- Comfortable performing in large theatre mask
- Collaborative approach
- Devising experience
- Comfortable with improvisation
The performance will be mainly a non-verbal, physical piece. You must be confident with, but do not necessarily need to have experience of, working outdoors and promenade performance.
An increasingly diverse audience wants and expects to see and hear itself reflected authentically, therefore we encourage women, black, Asian, minority ethnic, LGBT+ and Deaf and disabled people to consider applying.
Lorna Rees’ new work GEOPHONIC will be a site-responsive performance piece and sound walk. It will encourage audiences to listen to the geological processes of the Earth. It will explore the Anthropocene and remind people that humans are part of nature.
This is an opportunity to be part of a new piece of outdoor art commissioned for Inside Out Dorset by Activate Performing Arts & Jerwood Arts. You will be taking festival audiences on a journey through geology, exploring some of the events that shape our planet. For more information about the work please visit: https://www.gobbledegooktheatre.com/tour
Part of the inspiration for Geophonic has been the journey of our collaborator, acclaimed Earth Scientist Dr. Anjana Khatwa, who amongst many things is the first woman of South Asian descent to be awarded a prize from the Geological Society.
