unincorporated collaborations launches a new artist residency program – The Mothership – in Dorset, from March 2016. This opportunity is for contemporary artists working in any media seeking the qualities of a secluded retreat and potential collaboration. We want to explore the following themes – climate / weather, rural social and political issues, land / agriculture. Artists are invited to work independently on a project of their own choice. Work will be selected on the basis of current practice and there are no expectations of a presentation, although this can be arranged.
The residencies can range in length from a weekend to six weeks, depending on the needs of the artist and the availability of the studio, and are tailored towards professional artists seeking the ideal qualities for a working retreat – quiet, seclusion and creative inspiration.
UC are looking for artists whose practice explores one or more of the following media and subjects:
- climate / weather
- rural social and political issues
- land / agriculture
- moving image
This is an unpaid residency with a fee charged for contributions towards overheads – £50 per week. This fee may be subsidised by the artist contributing to communal tasks, i.e. wood chopping and gardening. All other travel, domestic and work production expenses will be borne by the artist. There is an option to hire the studio when it’s available between curated residencies at a cost of £300 per week all inclusive. unincorporated collaborations is in process of seeking funding to offer a series of fee paying themed residency periods in the future.

Applications are being accepted now with the residencies starting in March 2016.
We will be spending half an hour looking at each application so please send your CV, a covering letter including 1 referee, along with any media that we can look at within that time. Your example of work can take any form.
3 questions we would like you to answer in this application are:
- What would you like to work on while you’re here?
- What would you like to share with the local community?
- Ideally when and how long would you like your residency to be?
Please send your application to email@example.com or by post (email for the address). You will be invited for a Skype prior to being a resident for longer term periods. If successful, we will need a holding deposit and a reference to secure your residency. We regret that any 3d documentation sent to us cannot be returned.
Thank you for your interest!
