The Role

Artichoke is seeking an experienced and motivated producer to join our high-achieving production department. This position will suit a person capable of working under pressure with at least 2 years experience in a similar role. Previous success in delivering Learning & Participation projects is essential, as is first hand knowledge of working on outdoor events. The role requires an ability to respond quickly to new ideas and situations, and the ideal candidate will be a problem solver with a keen eye for detail. The job is challenging and exciting, offering a unique opportunity to be a part of an award-winning creative team.

Learning and Participation

Artichoke commissions national and international artists to create works that transform spaces for a brief moment.  We do not have a separate dedicated learning and participation team, rather we integrate participatory opportunities into all our work where possible. As demonstrated by London 1666, we seek ways in which these events can inspire and reflect the diverse communities in the places in which we work. Working over the longer term with the assistance of local authorities, youth clubs, housing associations and many local organisations, we create partnerships with young people, residents and community groups from across our project locations to create work, training and apprenticeship opportunities. Using the imagination of the artists as a catalyst to inspire participants to try something new, we harness the energy and commitment of local people to make that vision real, and, in turn, leave a legacy of enhanced skill or confidence as a result of their participation.

Company structure

Artichoke is a charity, funded as a National Portfolio Organisation by Arts Council England.  Under the guidance of the Board chaired by Peter Freeman, Helen Marriage, Artichoke’s founding artistic director, leads the organisation.  The permanent staff team of 16 is divided across the core departments of Production; Development; Communications and Administration. The core staff devote their time to delivering the programme of large-scale projects initiated by the Artistic Director.

The capacity of the organisation, and the production team in particular, is greatly increased in the period leading up to productions with specialist contractors and freelance staff employed to manage the detailed event planning and technical logistics required by Artichoke’s events.
