And Now: Wayfaring - participant call out - Inside Out Dorset Festival

Would you like to be part of this autumn’s Inside Out Dorset, the biennial festival of outdoor art and performance?

Activate, which produces the festival, is looking for participants to join artists And Now: in a one-off performance that is part of their event, Wayfaring, in Littlebredy and the surrounding area on the evening of Wednesday 21 September.

Wayfaring, one of five Inside Out Dorset events taking place across the county from 16-25 September, will be a unique celebration of the Autumn Equinox. Between 17-20 September, audiences will be invited to seek out waymarkers along ancient and modern pathways, discover the unexpected and contribute to the growing installation on this stunning hilltop location with commanding views across the South Dorset Ridgeway.  Finally, on the evening of the equinox, the live event will combine movement, sound, smells and the transformative power of fire in an atmospheric performance experience exploring the tensions and balances in our contemporary landscapes.

We are looking for adults who would like to join this performance, on top of a hill, in the dusk, on the Autumn equinox.

You might have dance or drama or choral experience, you might just love being in the outdoors and think you would like to be part of this piece?

What performers might be asked to do:

  • Ensemble mass movement- simple, choreographed movements (dancers welcome but  experience is not a requirement)
  • Carry fire torches or battery torches
  • Carry flags or similar
  • Speak to audience members or offer them gifts

What performers will be asked to do:

  • Quite a lot of walking, as the performance site is a 30 minute walk from the village
  • Move around on rough terrain
  • Operate in the dusk to dark with little lighting
  • Attend rehearsals on Tuesday 20th in the evening and Wednesday 21st sometime in the day.
  • Attend and participate in the performance 21st September

Here's what one of the prospective performers felt about attending the picnic that we had on 23 July where there was an opportunity to visit the site and meet the artists, Mandy and Ben from And Now: "I really enjoyed the workshop on Saturday – beautiful day, spectacular place, fascinating activities. It felt good to help the artists map out some initial ideas and movement for the performance. Although most of us didn’t know each other, it was really surprising and rewarding to find how quickly we were all able to tune in to each other and move as one.  A great experience and I’m looking forward to the rehearsals and performance in September"
