On a blustery 27 December, excited members of The Remix gathered in the foyer at Lighthouse, Poole, waiting in anticipation to see Cinderella. With their love of theatre, dance and performing they were ready for the action to begin. And what a joyous time they had – the glass slipper that smashed, the hilarious ugly sisters and of course the real ponies on stage! The children and young people in the group loved taking part, booing at the baddies, and shouting out at their favourite character, Buttons.
Jude Allen, Project Manager for The Remix, said:
“We had such a fantastic time at the panto at Lighthouse, the team there assisted us brilliantly and we were made to feel very welcome. The Remix participants loved the special effects, the costumes, laughing at the jokes and singing along. And the icing on the cake was when we got a special mention in the shout outs!”
We were lucky to benefit from Lighthouse’s ‘The Big Christmas Appeal’ fund which provides tickets to local groups and those that would otherwise not be able to attend the theatre.
Tom Shallaker, Fundraising and Ticket Sales Manager at Lighthouse, said: “The Big Christmas Appeal is for groups exactly like The Remix. We love being able to offer the chance to local children and young people to come to Lighthouse and experience the joy of live theatre. Something like Cinderella will hopefully stick in their memories for a long time and help continue their passion for performing and the arts.”
We are grateful to Lighthouse for offering The Remix these tickets (Lighthouse are still accepting donations for their appeal here). It was a lovely trip to be able to offer to the group outside of their normal workshop sessions and a fun time was had by all.
