Next Remix/Premix sessions:
Remix East and Remix West sessions 31st May and 1st June 10am – 3pm at Pavilion Dance, Westover Road, Bournemouth, BH1 2BU.
Mini bus transport available from Dorchester
Premix Sessions – 2nd June 10am – 3pm. Trip on the Swanage Railway followed by a drama workshop at a community venue in Swanage ( exact venue to be confirmed )
All sessions cost £7.50 , payable on the day or by BACS transfer
Bursaries to attend the Remix and Premix are available for families on low incomes, please contact the contact manger in confidence to discuss.
The Remix is an inclusive youth performance company open to young people age 11 -19 both disabled and non-disabled from across Dorset. Premix is a younger group aimed at 7-11yrs
The Remix and Premix members include young people with physical and sensory impairments, young people with learning difficulties and non-disabled young people, all with a love of performance and the willingness to stretch themselves and have fun.
This groundbreaking company began as a Cultural Hub project in 2007 when local schools highlighted an opportunity for the formation of an integrated performance group.
Now, in 2016, The Remix has around 45 young people involved and continues to produce fantastic, high quality inclusive performance opportunities for young people in Bournemouth, Poole and across Dorset.
Over the years The Remix have worked with internationally renowned companies including CandoCo Dance Company, Graeae Theatre Company, Choreographer; Freddie Opoku-Addair a Place Prize Winner 2008, KMA and StopGap Dance Company. In 0ctober 2010 The Remix took Bournemouth by storm and performed the first integrated flash mob in the South West in Bournemouth Main Square. They have performed in theatres and spaces all across the South West and in London.
The Remix is managed by Activate Performing Arts is partnered in some projects by Diverse City. It advocates for and delivers, diversity and equality of opportunity in culture and learning. The Remix team includes qualified care staff who are on hand to assist at all residencies and workshops. The project is oversen by Michaela Shaw, Activate's Producer for youth dance and Diversity and Project Manager; Jude Allen, based at Activate Performing Arts.
The Remix meet in school holidays for extended Remix workshops lasting from 2-4 days, often finishing with a performance opportunity and one Sunday per month throughout the year at locations in Poole, Bournemouth and West Dorset. This is a fully-inclusive, friendly and creative company who are constantly recruiting for new members to join this exciting group.
November 2016 sees the launch of Premix (age 7-11yrs)
- Eilis Davis, Artistic Director of The Remix will lead the Premix sessions on 22nd January 2017, 10am – 11.15am at Thomas Hardye School Studios, entrance via Coburg Road, Dorchester,DT1 2 HR
- The children will work towards producing sharing opportunities for parents and friends.
- The opportunity will be limited to a maximum number of 15 children of mixed ability.
- The target age range is 7 – 11 years but again this is flexible according to need and suitability
- The sessions will be mainly movement based with an element of drama and music making.
