Rural Tour 2013

New Circus on Tour

In September 2013, all the way from Carcassonne in France to nine rural locations across the South West of England came four very talented contemporary circus artists from Compagnie Hors Pistes with a show that delighted new audiences in the South West.

This was their second appearance in the South West, after their UK debut in 2012, at Activate Performing Arts hugely successful Inside Out Dorset festival in Ashmore.  Ordures et menagère, a show that was created to be performed outdoors, was captivating in its simplicity as everyday objects became part of an energetic, thrilling and humorous performance.

Ordures et menagere is the story of Mr and Mrs Anybody who have what you might imagine to be a quiet life with a nice, orderly routine.  But things are not always as they seem.  As the story infolds we begin to see who the characters really are, and as new uses are found for everyday objects and fantasies are intensified, their lives are transformed into a contemporary circus by the use of brilliant choreography and memorable music.

In excess of 1050 people saw the show where the four highly skilled performers wowed audiences in rural locations from Frome to Falmouth as one acrobatic lift flowed gracefully into the next aerial somersault making the whole thing appear completely effortless.

The tour was organised and managed by Activate Performing Arts in association with PASS partner Lighthouse Poole our associate partners Artsreach, Villages in Action (Devon), Take Art (Somerset) The Merlin Theatre (Somerset), Carn to Cove (Cornwall), Beaford Arts (North Devon) and Dorchester Arts with shows in Poole, Dorchester, Cranborne, Gillingham, Wiveliscombe, Batcombe, Beaford, Bow, Liskeard and Truro.

The tour was highly successful and in 2014 a second rural tour of French Contemporary Circus took place with Atelier LeFeuvre et Andre to more rural locations across the South West.
