Creating Ensemble Physical Theatre and Developing Characters

Creating Ensemble Physical Theatre and Developing Characters:
O'Shea & O'Gaukroger present a masterclass in devising work

Designed for fellow performers and theatre practitioners, you will be lead through O&O’s unique devising process which covers how we create strong, engaging characters quickly and how we build narrative through physical ensemble movement.

The workshop will explore the use of stimuli in theatre – from text extracts to everyday objects – to create a physical narrative. We will also show you how to begin the devising process with no stimuli, instead developing characters and stories simply from improvised physical movement. During this workshop you will gain a full insight into the different approaches we use as a company, which you can then apply to your own artistic practice.

Part of the workshop will also focus on basic physical theatre skills, as well as some more challenging techniques such as group lifts and vigorous ensemble and individual movement for performance. Bring water, loose clothing and energy! Age 16+.

12 - 3pm. Places cost £20 per person; advance booking is essential by emailing admin@the-lyric.com.
