We offer dance/movement classes for people with Parkinson’s and their partners or care-givers in Weymouth, Dorset.
The fortnightly sessions run in close consultation with the Dorchester & Weymouth Branch of Parkinson’s UK.
We have developed an evolving programme of exercises and movement sequences based on dance class models. These focus on mediating the challenges of living with Parkinson’s through the stimulating, social and fun environment of the dance class.
When: Classes take place fortnightly on Thursday afternoons
1st Session 2.00pm - 3.00pm
Shared Refreshment Break 3.00pm - 3.30pm
2nd Session 3.30pm - 4.30pm
Content
Classes are led by Amanda Fogg supported by musician Jane Saunders and new team member Aimee Smith.
In the past three or four years the classes have evolved to the extent that, although the principles of addressing the needs of Parkinson’s participants underpin the work, the experience is that of attending a dance class.
Dance is different from purely mechanical exercise in that it focuses on movement quality.
