In its 20th year Opera Circus works nationally and internationally producing contemporary opera and music theatre linked to musical processes concerned with social change. Currently working on Naciketa, a new work with libretto by Ariel Dorfman and music by Nigel Osborne. Dramaturgy by David Pountney. Opening in India in January 2013. Also working in Srebrenica with young cultural leaders and music projects in schools with partners Youth Council and Musicians without Borders. Working towards a food and arts project called LUNCH in Dorset.

Key Projects

Naciketa

A newly commissioned chamber opera - music Nigel Osborne, libretto Ariel Dorfman, Dramaturgy, David Pountney, orchestra Hebrides Ensemble. Opening in India January/February 2013 then touring to US, UK, Uganda, Columbia and we hope Dorset.

Srebrenica - Cultural Activity Projects with children and young people

A long term established partnership with the Youth Council in Srebrenica and Musicians without Borders in Sarajevo. Projects include the Silvertown Shine Rock Music Festival August 2011, the Children's Music Theatre and B-Smisao Youth Theatre, a music in schools project starting September 2011 - December 2012 + general training development + cultural trips

Differences in Demolition - a Sevdah Opera

This is an opera written by Nigel Osborne with libretto by Goran Simic the great Bosnian poet. This work has been touring since 2007 when the premiere was held at the National Theatre in Mostar in Bosnia. Last December it was the first opera ever to be performed in Srebrenica and then went to the Hofburg in Vienna before an audience that contained 31 Ambassadors. It's a beautiful and heart breaking work which when we get time we would like to reproduce in a more minimalist and easy to tour production

EU Partnership Project Wake Up 2010 - 2012

A process that grew out of a Creative Collaborations Partnership grant from the British Council in 2009. Working with Teater Mimart in Serbia, Musicians without Borders Netherlands and Bosnia, the Institute of Music for Human and Social Development at the University of Edinburgh and the Youth Council in Srebrenica we are holding 6 events over two years which marry continuing development of the partnerships with the support for cultural activity for young people and the development of Youth Theatre performance. So far we have held four events, one in Alkmar Holland, one in Srebrenica and Vienna, one in Belgrade Serbia and the fourth in April is in Fazana, Croatia. November we are back in Srebrenica and in April and beginning of May 2012, Bridport, Dorset. We will be reapplying for the next phase of this process to the EU Cultural Grants in October 2011.
