I am a contemporary dance artist and practitioner. My interests are performing, choreography, teaching and community based projects. I am also interested in what is happening outside of London in relation to dance, specifically with performance opportunities, professional development and community projects.
I have recently spent the last year with MAPdance Company, under the direction of Yael Flexer and Detta Howe. Through MAPdance I will gain my Masters in Dance Performance, validated by the University of Chichester. During MAPdance, I have worked with the following renowned choreographers: Yaara Dolev, Ben Duke, Rose English and Darren Ellis.
I successfully gained my 2:1 BA (Hons) in Dance Theatre from Laban, July 2010. Whilst being at Laban, I practiced ballet, release, Graham and Cunningham technique as well as theoretical classes such as Choreological Studies, a form of movement analysis, as well as Dance History and Culture. Laban allowed me to find my individualistic style of moving and also encouraged a diversity in choreographic practices.
During Laban, I took part in a weeks intensive at Balettakademien, Sweden, participating in classes including Ballet, Jazz and Modern. This opportunity allowed me to culturally experiencing another country and the dancing world in Sweden.
Before my training, I gained A-levels in Dance, Biology and English Literature. To support my dancing, I started classes in the martial art, Tae Kwon Do. I gained my black belt in 2007, and involved myself in several competitions and trained occasionally with the British team.
Member of the post-graduate company, MAPdance. Gaining an MA in Dance Performance. An intensive year involving the creation of five new pieces, working with choreographers, Yarra Dolev, Ben Duke, Darren Ellis, Gregory Maqoma and Rose English. As a company, we toured these works nationally for three months. Rehearsal directors: Yael Flexer and Detta Howe.
